15 minutes of fame: a teacher never forgotten

Religion teacher, former coach, and world traveler Mr. Tim Milnes has been here at Bellarmine for twenty-five years, but he has yet to make his debut in the newspaper. Hearing his woes all the way from Fr. Weber Hall, the newspaper staff sent me out to interview this slightly ignored yet prolific teacher on our campus.

Kaerstner: How long have you been teaching and when was the last time you were in the newspaper?

Milnes: I’ve been here 25 years and faintly remember a distorted picture of me in a paper a few years ago.

Kaerstner: Is it weird that you have taught some of the teachers that are now employed here?

Milnes: It’s not that weird. It just means I’ve been doing this for a long time!

Kaerstner: What is your favorite class to teach and why?

Milnes: I like teaching freshmen and world religions because there is a broad array of topics to be explored and investigated.
Kaerstner: What sports have you coached at Bellarmine?

Milnes: I coached freshman boys’ basketball for nine years, boys’ c team soccer for five, and girls’ c team soccer for two. The most memorable was when I coached girls’ c team fastpitch on Thursdays. I had a perfect record; I’m surprised they didn’t hire me full time.

Kaerstner: Where have you traveled in the world?

Milnes: I’ve been to Europe five times and the best was when I lived in Austria for 18 months. The mountains in Switzerland came in a close second though.

Kaerstner: What is an unknown fact about the one and only Mr. Milnes?

Milnes: I ran a 4:48 mile in high school. I don’t know how I did but it worked.

If Mr. Milnes is reading this, I hope he knows that he finally was featured in the newspaper. It took many years to get this far, but the staff of the Bellarmine Lion never fails to hear a request. Mr. Milnes is a wonderful teacher and freshmen should not be too scared if they end up in his class.
