Bellarmine’s Drama program is now in full swing to produce the hit musical Mamma Mia.
The musical originated in the United Kingdom and explores the lives of Donna and Sophie Sheridan as they navigate the days leading up to Sophie’s wedding. Finding out months prior to the wedding that she could potentially find her father, Sophie sends an invite to three potential matches. With popular hits from Swedish band ABBA and wacky hijinks, this musical is not one to miss!
Starting in December, students interested in performing for the musical went through a long audition process spanning five days. Shortly before winter break, the cast had been selected with wonderful actors with wonderful individual talents. After winter break, Bellarmine’s Drama program began the long process of musical rehearsals. The first rehearsal began the day Bellarmine students came back to school— each and every cast member read through the script, warming up to working with the rest of the crew. The first rehearsal brought out the vibrant and wonderful personalities of each and every member working on the musical. With January nearing its end, both cast and crew members have been working hard to make Mamma Mia Bellarmine’s best production yet. Cast members have been through many rehearsals since casting, learning the numerous songs of the musical and the choreography that comes along with it.
Backstage crew has additionally been working hard, from the costume crew gathering measurements from the large cast to set crew’s dive into building the set. Crew members are still looking for help!
