As the month of the 2025 Super Bowl, many are expressing their concerns and opinions on the performance. As Kendrick Lamar announces his performance at the Super Bowl, many are excited to see Kendrick finally take the stage at the Super Bowl after many past attempts. However, rumors of controversy spread about the tension with Drake.
Drake and Kendrick’s rocky relationship led to many diss tracks (Family Matters by Drake, meet the grahams and Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar) released in early May. “Not Like Us” soon skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Hot 100 and was awarded Record and Song of the Year on November 8 at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards along with 4 other awards.
Many speculated whether Kendrick would play “Not Like Us” at the 2025 Super Bowl since the song broke records and was considered Kendrick’s biggest song with over 1 billion streams on Spotify.
With much anticipation throughout the performance, Kendrick began to end the show with “Not Like Us,” yet before the track plays, Kendrick converses with his dancers and says “I wanna make a move, I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue… yeah that song… oh maybe I’ll think about it oh you know what I slow it down.” Many are taken aback at this excerpt from Kendrick as it directly states how Drake sued Kendrick at the end of November for “false and malicious allegations along with defamation.”
Several were stunned as Kendrick looked directly into the camera and smiled while name dropping Drake in one of his verses, “Say Drake, I hear you like ‘em young,” taking shots and highlighting the significance of the rumors surrounding Drake.
Many wonder how Drake will respond to the performance and whether he will continue the battle between Kendrick. This is just the beginning of the many hits and hints Kendrick contributed into the Super Bowl LIX.
