As 2025 comes to an end, Spotify provides the perfect time to reflect on the year and how interests grew or changed. The release of Spotify Wrapped becomes an anticipated event, giving an exciting summary of all that has taken place throughout the past year.
Spotify wrapped takes what people listen to and highlights individual interests, garnering attention for Spotify around the globe. Spotify concluded their data collection on October 31 and published the data on December
Students interviewed at Bellarmine enjoy listening to pop, R&B, and rap. This was reflected in their Spotify top artists and songs. Freshman Olivia Storaasli mentions “My top artist is Taylor Swift and my top song was ‘Greedy’ by Tate McRae,” along with junior Cora Ecklund saying her top artists were Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Rihanna, and Lana del Rey. +
R&B and rap was also a very big music genre within the Bellarmine community. Junior Adam Alessi states: “My top artist was Tyler the Creator and my top song was “Monks” by Frank Ocean.” Nuala Crowley, a junior, also provides how her artists fit into those genres, “My top artist was Future and my top song was ugly by Drake.”
Some people’s Spotify Wrapped differed from these mainstream genres, for example Fr. Ingebretson said “The Notre Dame Fight Song was my top song followed by the star spangled banner [because I play them at] basketball and volleyball games.” He shows how many can be surprised at their Spotify statistics at the end of the year.
Though Wrapped has become a community bonding experience to share music tastes with friends and family, especially with those online; it allows people to personally reflect on the different phases, and experiences, that have been lived throughout the past year. You can reflect on your music and let it guide you into the New Year. Did your Wrapped reflect a past version of yourself, or do you think it still fits who you are? What part of your music taste do you want to bring into the new year?
