The Bellarmine Lion staff is excited to announce a partnership with USA TODAY during the 2013-14 school year.
Bellarmine was selected among 5 high schools nation wide to partake in a pilot program where student journalists have the opportunity to run their own sports site under the USA TODAY High School Sports banner to be viewed by the general public.
“[This gives students] a chance to create an online sports community within their community, under a national brand such as USA TODAY.” Says USA TODAY director of content, Derek Samson.
This program provides aspiring journalists with real-life training as well as the chance for some content to be elevated to the USA TODAY sports and high school sites. USA TODAY is also offering participants potential internship and scholarship opportunities.
The Lion staff spent the summer writing and editing the first wave of articles that are now available for viewing online at htp://lms.usatodayhss.com/bellarmine-wa/
“We also will be looking at weekly and monthly rewards for schools with the greatest participation in the program, and we would like to establish regional leaders among the schools,” says Samson. “We think Bellarmine Prep could be that school in the Northwest.”
