With the new school year in full swing, many of Bellarmine’s activities are beginning to start up once again. Bellarmine’s Model United Nations program, led by Ken Brown, is one of these programs.
Bellarmine Model United Nations is currently one of the fastest-growing programs offered here at Bellarmine. This program allows students to simulate debates held by the United Nations in a controlled environment. Delegates are often representing countries and asked to find solutions to world problems.
This year, the Bellarmine Model UN program is hosting their first conference of the year: Preparation Model United Nations, a Bellarmine-only conference used to prepare new students as well as refreshing older members on debate. Delegates wishing to go on future conferences this year are required to attend PrepMUN.
This year, PrepMUN will be on September 30- October 1 and will be hosting three different committees of varying levels of difficulty: The Committee on Science, Technology, and Development (CSTD), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and the Historical Crisis Committee (HCC). These committees offer a varying degree of topics for everyone interested in attending from sustainable energy and industrial pollution in developing countries to the Space Race.
After PrepMUN comes the most highly-anticipated conference of the year for those in the program: Pacific Model United Nations, or PACMUN. PACMUN is Bellarmine’s first conference of the year as well as the most popular amongst Bellarmine MUN students.
Future conferences will be held throughout the year, which those interested should contact Ken Brown and Brynn Manke for more information.
