Though many retirees left Bellarmine, there have been lots of new additions to the staff family. However, it’s been noticed that some of the new Lion members have not been properly introduced to our student body. You may have seen these new Lions around campus; however, you may be confused of who they are or what they teach, so let’s put a name to those faces.
The main issue about the lack of introductions, focuses on how most of the students don’t know the new faculty members. Additionally, it may cause a sense of division between our newcomers. For example, a couple of our fellow sophomores, Quin Kanno and Ella Solan, mentioned they only know two to three out of roughly more than 20 new faculty members. If this trend continues, it could possibly lead to division in the staff and student portion of Bellarmine.
To gather from another teacher’s perspective, Tony Rehberger had a few points to add to this topic. Rehberger believes it is important for new staff to be introduced at the start of the year for a more unified school body and staff. Rehberger quotes, “It’s important for them to be introduced, to help build a community.”
Additionally one of the new teachers that joined the community this year, Jalen Robinson-McClure, explained how he felt as though the new staff were not properly introduced to the student body here at Bellarmine. This is a problem due to the fact that their first experiences don’t radiate a positive start. Due to the fact that they may feel isolated and separated from the rest of the school community.
In order to improve our new staff’s first experiences at Bellarmine, it is important to properly introduce our new faculty members to the students. In the true spirit of our Lion community, let’s make all feel welcome.
