On Nov. 5, people around the country anxiously waited for the results of the presidential election. As the night went on, Republican candidate, Donald Trump, took the lead and secured the victory that very night. The almost instant results left half the country celebrating a victory and the rest dealing with a loss.
During election night, the swing states were the deciding factors. These included Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada. Trump shockingly sweeped all these states, securing the victory. These results were very different from Trump’s campaign in the 2020 election, as then most of those states had voted blue. Along with many states flipping, a significant number of counties now voted in favor of Trump. Pennsylvania was a key state in this election and while democratic candidate Kamala Harris spent most of her campaign in Pennsylvania, Trump was still able to gather the support of its citizens.
Trump spoke to his supporters the night of the election in his home state of Florida. At that time he knew he had won the election and claimed he won the popular vote already, which was later proved true. He felt like this was the “political comeback” that he needed and that God had put him in this place for a reason. He is now focused on electing his new team. Two of his most popular picks involve Elon Musk and Robert Kennedy Jr. Trump supports Kenndy’s plan to make our country healthy again through what is put in our food and he is also taking steps towards his goals in the economy and immigration.
Harris chose not to speak the night of Nov. 5 and instead spoke on Wednesday at Howard University in Washington D.C. Her speech urged her supporters to stay strong throughout this time and even though they did not get the outcome they wanted, peace and unity are of utmost importance.
During the campaign process, the candidates utilized TikTok and other social media platforms to grow their popularity and gain supporters. Now, after the election, Trump supporters are posting about their excitement and celebrating, while Harris’ supporters are sharing their sorrows by posting videos of them in tears while talking about the new presidential elect.
Though the quick results of the election divided the nation, as Trump is preparing for office, it is important for the people to unite again and put their differences aside to work towards a better future for the country.
