Starting high school and getting into a rhythm can be difficult. Getting good grades, learning, and growing outside the classroom in extracurriculars and beyond can also pose challenges.
Bellarmine’s junior class has offered the underclassmen some pro-tips as they start their journey in high school.
First, Addie Schueffele said, “do your homework the day it is assigned to stay on top of your work.” Always try your best to do A day homework on A days and B day homework on B days. By doing this, school becomes a lighter load and less of a drag to get it all done the night before it is due.
Second, Zoe Chao said to, “stay motivated and avoid procrastination. Also, try not to stress out too much, as long as you are doing your best, that’s what matters!” Be present and engaged in class as much as possible. The more you put in, the more you will gain. It also makes the school day more fun, you will learn more, and grow your confidence in the classroom. All these qualities will be taken to college and beyond.
Third, Grace Morgan added, “participate in all that you can! Get the most out of your high school experience and have some amazing memories to look back on.”
Don’t be afraid to get involved. At Bellarmine, this one is said a lot, but cannot be said enough. Getting involved is the best way to grow as a student, leader, and person in general. There are plenty of opportunities for all sorts of interests. Start a club, become a link crew leader, or run for ASB.
Fourth, Delya Lewis said, “you’re going to be under pressure to do well and succeed, but you can and will do it! Believe in yourself. It is okay to make mistakes!” Enjoy the four precious years of school because they will be over before you know it. As hard as it may be, don’t take this time for granted or wish you could be in college or somewhere else in the world. You are here for a reason, so make the most of the opportunities presented to you.
Finally, Alexis Achziger said, “perfection is not obtainable but progress is.”
