Schools are back in session and that means new regulations and policies. One change that sparked the most debate is the location of the new lunch line. In previous years, the line stretched along the far wall near the bathrooms. This year, it snakes around the other side of the campus center, often winding right between tables where students eat.
Many students reported being told this change was occurring to shorten waiting time and to make room for a new section for drinks and grab n’ go snacks which was planned to be built into the area where the previous Lions Den was. However, no such area has been changed, leaving students confused as to why the line has shifted.
The most controversial part of the lunch line is its location. It cuts straight through the tables on the far side of the campus center, which has made it very awkward for lunch eaters and line waiters. Senior frequenter of the lunch line Kelani Comer shares her opinion, “It should be around near the trash cans, not in between the tables, it feels like my privacy has been taken.”
To gain information and inform the student body as to why the line changed, we interviewed the Dean of Students Willie London. The lunch line was indeed moved to make room for a grab ‘n go section in the previous Lion Den. Yet due to some delays in refrigerators and electrical planning, the project is on hold. The date to open the new section in the campus center is still unknown, but London made known his urgency and need for the new addition, with him being hopeful about it being implemented by the end of the semester. However, if the planning doesn’t seem to continue on schedule, London will “reroute the line back the other way,” to its original spot; looping back around by the bathrooms.
Although the lunch line is very new to some folks, there’s no need to worry. It’s only temporary and for a good reason. This new addition will improve overall wait time for lines and prevent linecutters, so be ready for a much more efficient and quicker way to buy food soon.
