Kristine Zelazny, an administrative assistant, was walking around campus on a chilly morning two years ago and found three kittens. These kittens were taken in and eventually found homes within the Bellarmine faculty/staff and student body.
However, there was a fourth kitten in the litter that was not found until a couple of months later, and has been living on campus under Bellarmine Hall since then.
The cat, named Lucy, has had three litters of kitten in the past two years.
In her most recent litter, Lucy gave birth to six kittens. Two of these kittens , about 8 weeks old, were found on the morning of October 2 by Zelazny and were named Wednesday and Uncle Fester. Like their siblings, these kittens have found loving homes within the Bellarmine community. Lucy is described as a great mouser, and while protective of herself and her kittens, is especially sweet.

Zelazny detailed her plan when a couple of journalism students went into her office to meet the kittens. Her plan is to catch the other four kittens, find them homes, and then catch Lucy, fix her—a campus is not a safe place to have kittens—and train her to be a greenhouse kitten. Lucy’s kittens have typically have had no trouble finding homes, and Zelazny is hoping to find homes for the rest of her kittens in the student body after they are fostered.
