Rejection is hard, especially when it comes from the college you’ve dreamed of going to since you were little, and it happens more often than people might think. Here’s some perspective from someone who’s very experienced in college rejection.
Step 1: Don’t take it personally! Not everyone can get into their dream college and that’s okay. Rejections are never personal, and keeping a level head is the most important part. It’s okay to feel frustrated or angry, so find a healthy way to let out that frustration. Hanging out with friends and distracting myself helps a lot.
Step 2: Look at how far you’ve come since being a freshman here at Bellarmine. Remember the little things and embrace the time you have spent here amongst your peers. College, much like high school, is just another step on the journey of life. Just remember that where you go is not nearly as important as how you use that time. Wherever you end up, remember that what you get out of college matters more than location.
Step 3: Look on the bright side. Take a good look at all the amazing colleges that accepted you and find the best fit. Pretty soon after starting college, most students forget all about those rejections and explore their new environment. Learning to let it go and forget combats those feelings that leave you down in the dumps.
Overall, just remember that there’s more to life than just school. Life moves on and there’s brighter things to look forward to, no matter where life takes you.
