The return of WIAA sports
With all the uncertainty surrounding the school year and sports, many people are wondering how things are going to look as we head into the second semester. Many people are also probably wondering when their sport or athletic event is scheduled to take place or if it will even happen at all. On Jan.6, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) came out with their decision on when sports are scheduled to take place.
The WIAA came out and said that they had categorized every sport into different seasons with the first one set to begin on Feb. 1. This first season includes all of the Fall sports such as football, volleyball, and cross country. All athletes will be required to wear a mask and socially distance when they can to help ensure that everyone stays safe.
The second season, which is set to begin on March 15, consists of all the Spring sports, including track and field, baseball, and also boys soccer. It is still unclear if there will be any setbacks or precautions needed to be taken during this season because of COVID but we can all hope that nothing happens before then.
After both of these seasons, season three will start on April 26 and run through the end of the school year. The sports that will happen during this season are all of the Winter sports, so wrestling and boys and girls basketball.
With all of the sad stories coming out today it is nice to finally hear some good news and learn that our lives may be returning to normal. “I’m just excited to get back to playing sports,” said junior Sten Rasmussen.
Even for those who don’t play sports, they are a big part of our lives and help build an exciting atmosphere that all like to be a part of.
