Seattle Sounders president Hugh Weber visits Bellarmine

On Thursday, April 6, Seattle Sounders president Hugh Weber returned to his high school once again, just in time for 4th period.

As a member of the Bellarmine Lion journalism staff his senior year from 1983 to 1984, he found himself the interviewee rather than the interviewer as students clamored to meet him during a press conference in the Academic Center of Excellence.

Jeanne Hanigan’s Journalism class, Jim Dempsey’s Leadership class, and Jacob Singer’s AP Language and Composition class peppered him with several questions, ranging from the practical aspects of running an MLS franchise to what he considered his most inspirational books.

Several administrators, faculty/staff, development office team members, and even old friends welcomed Hugh Weber back to his previous home on the hill, Bellarmine Prep.

According to Linkedin, Hugh Weber was named Sounders’ president in January 2023. From August 2017 to February 2023, Hugh was president at Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment. Before that he was the New Jersey Devils’ president from August 2013 to February 2023. And, before that, he was the New Orleans Pelicans (formerly Hornets) president from 2004 to August 2012.
