In a world that often seems divided by religious and cultural differences, Bellarmine Prep stands as a beacon of unity, promoting fellowship through sports. We, as a private Jesuit school, work to exemplify the traits of spirit and camaraderie, and this is especially evident in our sports. The profound impact of unity through sports can be seen through the enduring traditions and rituals that our school upholds year after year.
One such tradition that demonstrates our commitment to unity is the annual friendly competition our women’s soccer team engages in against our neighboring Jesuit institution from the east, Gonzaga Prep. This event is more than just a soccer match; it represents the shared values and principles that unite us. The girls travel to Spokane each September to partake in this contest, which, as competitive as it may be, goes beyond the score on the scoreboard. This year, they faced a challenging match, ultimately losing 4-1. However, regardless of the score, this tradition exemplifies the
unity and fellowship that we, as a Catholic Jesuit school, continuously strive to achieve.
Another remarkable tradition that Bellarmine Prep participated in last year is the men’s basketball team trip to San Luis Obispo. This tournament serves as a gathering of Catholic and Christian schools that share a common faith tradition. The competition provides our athletes with a platform to not only showcase their sporting abilities but also to deepen their understanding of faith and fellowship. Last year, the Lions participated in this tournament and, though they faced stiff competition, emerged victorious in two out of their six games.
These traditions continue to demonstrate the powerful impact of faith in bringing people together. These tournaments serve as more than just sporting events. They are platforms for fostering fellowship, sportsmanship, and spiritual growth.
