Jumping into winter sports

November is not only a time for holiday cheer and Thanksgiving, but the beginning of many winter sports seasons. Throughout this season, it can be difficult to stay motivated, fit, and mentally healthy while balancing school and a sport. So, here are some tips to prepare and improve this winter season.

Use your conditioning resources.

Although many are not aware, the weight room is open after school for preconditioning and in season workouts. Use the resources provided to not only prepare for your sport, but increase your confidence in your abilities.

Using resources to research stretches that can be done during warmups and cooldowns can improve overall flexibility and endurance. Pre-practice stretches and neck movements improve practice and game safety and prevent injuries.

Stay hydrated! It might sound like an overused term, but staying hydrated prevents injuries, sickness, and leads to better health physically and mentally. There are many substitutions and ways to implement hydration into everyday activities, such as water plans, liquid IV’s, and electrolyte drinks (Gatorade, Electrolyte, Powerade).

Remember the importance of stretching, conditioning, and staying hydrated this winter sports season, Lions!
