The #8 Bellarmine Boys basketball team pulled off an upset to remember on Saturday night against the #1 ranked Rainier Beach Vikings. This March 1 victory showcased the Lions’ ability to perform on a bigger stage, and is a promising beginning of their journey in the state championship.
The Lions edged out the Vikings in an exciting 59-57 win, led by Kade Price with 13 points. Ben Heisel and Ronnie Wiggins added 12 points each. The Rainier Beach offense was not timid, however, led by Kaden Powers who contributed 19 points. Throughout multiple lead changes and high pressure moments, the Lions never let up and continued to convert on offense. A clutch three from Price and free throws from Heisel and Birk Johnston secured the fourth quarter lead and left the Lions victorious in a monumental game.
Bellarmine will face off against either #2 Mt. Spokane or #10 Monroe on Thursday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome. This year will be the team’s first visit to the Dome in nine years, proving that the future of this program is bright.
