In an inspiring turnaround season, the Lions Men’s Basketball Team finished with a trophy and title marking a win for 6th in the WIAA 3A State Tournament. Impressively, this was done under the guidance of an entirely new coaching staff. Leading the charge was head coach Bobby Moorehead, who went on to be voted Coach of the Year of the PSL, a title voted on by other coaches in the league.
As senior player Sadiq Momoh, states, “The season went well, we went from one of the worst teams in the 4A league to one of the best, with the division change to 3A. Our team chemistry was really good, especially for a team with a new coaching staff.”
The final record of the season was 24-8 with JJ Bordeaux (‘25) leading as team-voted “MVP.”
A special notice to the efforts of underclassmen like Ben Heisel (‘26) and Ronnie Wiggins (‘27) who received Most Improved and Defensive MVP, respectively, is deserved. Their coaches and teammates voted on these awards after witnessing a great performance from the both of them, all the way to the Tacoma Dome.
With a team banquet to wrap up the season, coaches and players were able to celebrate their accomplishments, and acknowledge the support from parents.
Team-voted “Most Inspirational,” Momoh, reflects and says, “Throughout my 4 years of playing basketball, to have my teammates, coaches, and parents by my side through the ups and downs of the season was a blessing.”
Unfortunately, the season did not finish with only high points. Bordeaux remarks on their 60-point loss in California to Folsom High School and says, “That grind and getting up early, pushing ourselves, staying disciplined, really made a difference and helped us level up for the rest of the season. It showed us what it takes to compete at a high level, and I think that mindset shift was a major part of our team’s success later on.
This season was more than just wins and rankings — it was a testament to resilience, trust, and the power of a unified team. With a solid foundation now in place, the Lions have not only made history but set the tone for a new era of excellence in years to come.
